The use of carburizing agent in smelting process, due to the improper burden or charging and decarburization, sometimes the carbon content in steel does not meet the requirement of the top period. Commonly used carburetors are carbon pig iron, electrode powder, petroleum coke powder, charcoal powder and coke powder. Petroleum coke with little impurity is used as carburizing agent when smelting medium and high carbon steel in converter. The requirement of carburant for Bof steelmaking is high fixed carbon, low content of ash, volatiles, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and other impurities, and dry, clean and moderate particle size. The fixed carbon components are: CARBURANT W C & GT; 96% , volatile less than 1.0% , W s less than 0.5% , W moisture less than 0.55% , particle size 1-5 mm. The grain size is too fine to be burned, too coarse to be added to float on the surface of molten steel, not easily absorbed by molten steel. The particle size of induction furnace is 0.2-6 mm, the particle size of steel and other Ferrous is 1.4-9.5 mm, the high carbon steel requires low nitrogen and the particle size is 0.5-5 mm, and so on the specific need according to the specific furnace smelting workpiece types and other details of the specific judgment and selection.
For Casting, cast iron, cast steel, casting will have a requirement for carbon, well, just as the name implies, the carburizing agent is to increase the carbon content in molten iron. For example, in smelting, the commonly used furnace charge is pig iron, scrap steel, recharging charge, and the carbon content of pig iron is high, however, the purchasing price is higher than scrap steel, so increasing scrap steel input, reducing pig iron input and adding carbon additive can reduce casting cost to a certain extent. The carbon content in the ladle can be adjusted by adding a specific brand of carburizing agent to the ladle after the deslagging and degassing treatment. The main materials used for carburizing agent are graphite, graphite-like, electrode block, coke, silicon carbide and other materials. The commonly used electrode blocks and silicon carbide carburetors have the advantages of high carbon content and strong oxidation resistance, but the production process is complicated and the cost is high, but the ash content, sulfur content is high, the carbon content is low, the carbonization effect is not good.
