Pre-melting refining slag is a kind of refining slag which is mixed in a certain proportion and melted into liquid state at high temperature above the melting point of slag system in special equipment. The pre-melting refining slag has the advantages of high purity, uniform chemical composition, stable phase, low melting point and high slag forming speed, which can greatly shorten refining time and can be directly used for slag washing in the tapping process of converter ladle to improve the cleanliness of molten steel. And does not contain fluoride or a small amount of fluoride, reduce lining erosion, effectively reducing the pollution of fluoride to the environment. Because of its compact structure, non-absorbent, convenient storage and transportation, non-pulverization and non-volatilization, premelting refining slag can reduce dust pollution of iron and steel works significantly, but its production cost is high.

In the metallurgical process, the composition of slag has a very important influence on the cleanliness of molten steel. Because of the high content of unstable oxides such as Feo and MNO, the high oxidation slag entering the ladle after tapping will continuously transfer oxygen to the molten steel, which will seriously affect the yield of aluminum and the cleanliness of the molten steel, the result is nozzle clogging and surface quality defects. The control technology of refining slag has been used in IF Steel production by ARMCO, POSCO and Nippon Steel since the last century, the content of inclusions and harmful elements in molten steel can be effectively reduced by reasonably controlling the composition of refining slag to obtain high cleanliness steel. Therefore, it is very important to apply refining slag control technology on the basis of minimizing the tapping slag quantity. According to the control technology of refining slag of IF steel, the physical and chemical properties of refining slag are analyzed and studied in a domestic plant, which provides a basis for the selection of refining slag system in clean steel production.
