Since silicon and oxygen can be easily combined to form silicon dioxide, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer in steel making, and since the formation of SIO2 gives off a lot of heat, it is beneficial to increase the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. At the same time, ferrosilicon can be used as alloying element additive in low alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel.
