Precautions for Use
Control the Preheating Process
Preheating is a critical step to prevent thermal shock cracking of the nozzle.
- The preheating temperature must be gradually increased, avoiding direct contact with high-temperature molten steel. Typically, preheating to 800-1000°C is required.
- Maintain a steady heating rate of 5-10°C/min. Rapid heating or localized overheating is strictly prohibited.
- After preheating, hold the nozzle at temperature for a period to ensure uniform internal and external temperatures, minimizing thermal gradients.
Standardized Installation
Improper installation may cause uneven stress distribution or molten steel leakage, compromising service life and production safety.
- Inspect the nozzle externally before installation to confirm no cracks, chipped edges, or other defects. Simultaneously, clear debris from connection points.
- During assembly, ensure the nozzle's centerline aligns with those of the ladle and mold to prevent localized wear caused by misalignment.
- Apply moderate tightening force-excessive looseness may cause leakage, while excessive tightness may induce internal stresses leading to cracking.
Continuous Monitoring
During operation, observe the nozzle's performance in real time and address abnormalities promptly to prevent escalating failures.
- Monitor molten steel flow stability closely. Sudden increases or decreases in flow rate may indicate internal blockage or wear, requiring immediate investigation.
- Monitor the nozzle's outer wall temperature. Localized abnormal heating may indicate erosion or cracking, requiring an assessment of continued usability.
- Prevent inclusions from secondary steel oxidation adhering to the nozzle's inner wall. Excessive inclusions can impede molten steel flow and accelerate nozzle wear.
Implement Safety Precautions
Zirconia nozzles operate at high temperatures, requiring operators to guard against risks from heat exposure and component damage.
- Operators must wear heat-resistant protective gear, such as fire-resistant suits and protective face shields, to prevent burns.
- If cracks or molten steel leakage are detected in the nozzle, immediately halt pouring according to procedures. Continued use under faulty conditions is strictly prohibited.
- Discarded nozzles must be cooled to room temperature before disposal to prevent fires or burns from hot components.
